Give your mother what she wants for Mother's Day ... a good laugh!
Airline pilot Tom Grayson and flight attendant Rene Foss, author of Around the World in a Bad Mood, will present "Humor from both ends ... of the airplane!" at 7:30 p.m. May 9 at the Grace Inn at Ahwatukee, 10831 S. 51st St. The comedy is clean, but you must be 18 or over to attend.

A wave of Mother's Day Perks at KRC
Shower mom with plenty of gifts and big waves this Mother's Day by bringing her to the Kiwanis Recreation Center May 10 or 11. From 1 to 3 p.m. all moms can swim in the wave pool for free with the purchase of another admission.
Moms will also have a chance to win free prizes. Representatives from MommyPerks.com and Personal Child Stories will be on site, along with Dr. Sally, author of seven parenting books, who will offer free parenting tips and advice for moms with questions. The concession stand will also offer a special Mother's Day "afternoon brunch" including enchiladas and a slushy.
Regular admission to the wave pool is $6 and $3 for those 2-12 years old. Children under the age of 8 must have an adult with them at all times while in the water. Mid-day hours are 3 to 5 p.m. and regular admission is $4, $2 for those 2 to 12 years old.

Celebrate Mother's Day without reservations
Mother's Day is around the corner and time to treat mom to a special made-from-scratch breakfast with her family. Sweet Tomatoes is offering a full Sunday breakfast with no reservations.
The "Sunday Breakfast" runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Mother's Day and is an all-you-care-to-eat style buffet for the whole family to enjoy at one fixed price.

Mother's Day brunch at Rawhide
Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass, located at 5700 W. North Loop Road in Chandler, will celebrates Mothers of the Wild West with a decadent brunch with all the fixings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11.

Quest Martial Arts offers moms the gift of personal security
Feeling safe in today's potentially violent world is extremely important for every woman. In recognition of Mother's Day, the Phoenix Quest Center is holding a very special self defense course for women in Arizona.
The seminar will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 10 at 3016 N. Dobson Road, Suite 14, in Chandler. Participants will learn a wide range of skills - everything from carrying themselves with confidence, danger recognition, conflict resolution and de-escalation - to the physical skills that could potentially save a life.
Women will also gain new confidence and develop more self-control, concentration and mental toughness. Plus they'll experience a great physical workout to lose weight, stay in shape and reduce stress.
All proceeds for this event will go towards supporting Maggie's Place, a home for expectant mothers who are alone or are living on the streets.
A minimum donation of $20 will be asked of all participants.

Mother's Day concert, lunch with Estéban
The Desert Botanical Garden will present two Mother's Day concerts featuring Estéban. The performances are scheduled for Sunday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (doors open at 10 a.m.) and again from 4 to 6 p.m. (doors open at 3 p.m.) in the Garden's Dorrance Hall, 1201 N. Give the gift of health this Mother's Day
Ahwatukee Foothills resident JoAnn Chase is hoping for a miracle. She is battling cancer for the third time, this time in her brain. The brain tumor has been deemed inoperative, and her treatment options have been narrowed down to specialized gamma knife radiation treatment. She has three children, ages 9, 11 and 25.
The community has rallied in support of the family, and two benefit events will be held May 10. Proceeds will help defray Chase's mounting medical bills.
An Ahwatukee Adventure Boot Camp/Aqua Boot Camp benefit will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Ahwatukee Community Center, 4700 E. Warner Road. The first 45 minutes will be an outdoor workout with Ahwatukee Adventure Boot Camp and the second 45 minutes will be a workout in the pool with the Community Center's Aqua Boot Camp. Men, women and children at least 13 years of age are encouraged to register at www.AhwatukeeBootCamp.com. A benefit Golf Tournament will be held at The Raven at South Mountain Golf Club, 3636 E. Baseline Road. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The cost, $150 per golfer or $500 per foursome, includes green fees, golf cart, range balls and an American barbecue. There will also be contests, an auction and a raffle. Join Mother's Day ‘Walk To Empower'
Thousands of walkers and volunteers will honor Mother's Day on Sunday, May 11, by participating in Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization's Walk to Empower at Tempe Beach Park.
The goal is to raise $150,000, not for research, but to benefit Y-ME programs and services offered free of charge to anyone seeking information and support when facing breast cancer.
Y-ME is also celebrating its 30th anniversary as the nation's first non-profit breast cancer organization, whose mission is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support that no one faces breast cancer alone.
