Ahwatukee Foothills News

Combining bold, familiar flavors with a unique twist is a common theme in the new menu items at Gordon Biersch.

The restaurant and brewery, which has four locations in the Valley, has rolled out its new menu with prices ranging from $9 to $22.

NY Strip & Shrimp Tempura Combo

Grilled 8 oz. New York strip with tempura shrimp served with sweet soy dipping sauce and our tangy Gordon Biersch steak sauce. Accompanied by roasted garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables.

"(The menu has) been very successful so far," Geena Stevens, general manager of the Gordon Biersch in Scottsdale said. "The Tuscan Chicken pasta in particular has been been very popular."

Like its signature brews, all Gordon Biersch menu items are prepared on site from scratch with fresh, seasonal ingredients and include flavors from around the world.

Items like its Tuscan Chicken Pasta, NY strip & shrimp tempura combo, teriyaki chicken & tempura shrimp combo, pecan crusted tilapia, shrimp & scallop linguini and seared tuna were created by listening to the needs and requests of its customers. The company regularly polls customers through visitor surveys and outreach to its loyal Passport members for feedback.

A Passport Rewards card from Gordon Biersch accumulates points for each dollar spent at the restaurant. The points earned can be redeemed at any time for gift cards, brewer's dinners, entertainment events, or a variety of vacations.

"It's a way for us to reward our loyal guests," Stevens said. "I kind of relate it to a frequent flyer program."

The Passport Rewards card is $20 to sign up, and then the customer receives a $20 gift card to use on their next visit.

Gordon Biersch has also added a variety of new specialty cocktails, such as Raspberry Bay Breeze, Asian Peach Martini, and a Crisp Cucumber Martini.

Tapping parties will be held for a new brew called Alt beer during the week of Feb. 2. Stevens said customers can acquaint themselves with the Alt beer and enjoy free appetizers.

Gordon Biersch is located in Tempe at 420 S. Mill Ave., Gilbert at 2218 E. Williams Field Road, Scottsdale at 18545 N. Allied Way, and Gilbert at 6915 North 95th Ave. For more information, visit www.gordonbierschrestaurants.com.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
