Patterned carpet and the right accessories create a unique touch

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Dear Claudia:

I would like to surprise my mother by replacing her outdated living room carpet. My brothers will contribute and help me with the selection. My question is simple - do you think that patterned carpets will look outdated in the near future?

Answer:

How exciting it is to treat your mother to such a thoughtful surprise. Replacing outdated carpet will not just be a treat it will also be an investment in the house. It is recommended that carpet should be replaced at least every 10 years.

I am a fan of patterned carpet, particularly if used with the right décor. It could be the unique touch that makes the décor spectacular and timeless. When selecting the carpet consider the furniture style, the colors used in the room and the accessories.

Patterned carpet is available in different colors, textures and quality. There are thousands of different patterns and price ranges and the selection might be overwhelming. It is exciting to see all the different styles that could go with any décor. If you find it too challenging to decide on the right carpet pattern ask a professional to help you with the selection.

Dear Claudia:

I would like to finish accessorizing our living room and dining room. My wife has wanted to get it done for years but never has time to do it herself and she does not know what to buy. To make it easy on her I would like to purchase a gift certificate.

What do you suggest?

Answer:

Accessorizing is certainly an art. If done well it completes a room and highlights your unique style. Without knowing the style of the furnishings you have it's difficult to recommend just one place that sells accessories since usually they specialize in a particular style. However, Pier 1 Imports has unique finds from all over the world that make bold statements to compliment most decors.

To simplify the project for your wife, my suggestion is to buy a gift certificate for a consultation from a designer. A designer will go to your home and consider your furnishings, window treatments and the colorization in your living room and dining room and offer help with selections within your budget. Your wife will certainly appreciate having the rooms completed by a professional and you can all enjoy it for many years.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
