Let's Eat: '5 for 6 'til 7' bar menu at Fleming's

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar has introduced a new bar menu, which they call "5 for 6 ‘til 7."

That means guests can choose from five cocktails, five wines and five appetizers, all for $6 each, from 5 to 7 p.m. every day.

Operating partner John Jeffries said all the appetizers are full-size, the same as they offer on the dining side of the restaurant, located at 905 N. 54th St. in Chandler. Jeffries said that guests have responded well to the promotion so far.

"A lot of times when places do their happy hours they can tend to downsize things," Jeffries said. "This is all normally things that we do we've just brought the prices down."

The appetizers guests can choose from include: sweet chile calamari, which are lightly breaded and tossed with a sweet chili sauce; seared ahi tuna, which Jeffries said is sushi-grade tuna seared "just enough" and served on a fresh vegetable salad with spicy mustard sauce; two jumbo lump crab cakes served with roasted red pepper and lime butter sauce; tenderloin carpaccio, which is very thinly sliced, served raw with caper creole mustard sauce and red onion; and wicked cajun barbecue shrimp, which Jeffries says is "full-flavored" and marinated with garlic and spices.

Fleming's cocktails are traditional, but with a twist. The Fleming's mojito is made with Bacardi Limon rum to give it more of a citrus flavor, while the white cosmo is made with Ketel One vodka white cranberry juice. Jeffries said it has a different flavor to it, with not as much acidity as regular cranberry juice.

"You take the traditional and we like to add a little something different to it to make it a little more special," Jeffries said.

Fleming's specialty remains, however, its steak and its hospitality.

"People are not just coming in to have a meal but creating an experience out of it," Jeffries said. "It's certainly a wonderful restaurant for special occasions: anniversaries, birthdays and graduations."

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
