The 10th Laugh of 2009 Ahwatukee Comedy Club show raised around $500 for the “Boots for our Troops” program Friday. This is the second show that the Comedy Club has dedicated to the troops.

Tom Grayson, a combination comic and airline captain, has been organizing clean comedy shows in Ahwatukee Foothills since January of 2005.

“Tonight was about putting on a show in support of our troops and because I think everybody needs a good laugh for one thing, and they also need to bring in money for boots for troops and packages from home and other projects that need money.”

Around 100 people attended the show at the Grace Inn Hotel to watch 13 comics from the Phoenix area perform.

“I think we try to stay very audience appropriate,” Grayson said. “We try to put out a product that I think people are looking for, because I think they’re still looking for clean comics.”

Friday’s show was also video taped and will be sent as DVDs in packages to troops overseas.

“We are putting out a product that people are liking, laughing at, leaving laughing and that’s the intent,” Grayson said.

Every month the Ahwatukee Comedy Club hosts a show at the Grace Inn Hotel on the third Saturday and many of them have supported charities like “Boots for our Troops.” From every ticket sold Friday $5 was donated and DVDs from the various comics were on sale to put into packages for the troops.

“Anytime there is a charity show for anything like this I always want to be a part of it. I jump at the chance,” said Anthony Padilla, one of the returning performers. “If there was one thing that I would have to say that is good about what I do is now is the most important time that people need entertainment. People need to laugh.”

Alyson Zepeda is interning this semester for the Ahwatukee Foothills News. She is a junior at Arizona State University.
