Center Pointe Dance will celebrate its grand opening tomorrow by showcasing its new location in Ahwatukee Foothills.

The studio is “bigger and better” than the previous one, co-owner Bianca Caryl said.

Saturday’s grand opening at the southeast corner of Warner Road and 48th Street will highlight Center Pointe’s four studios, a homework area for dancers, and a “parents’ room” with toys and movies that will serve as a waiting area.

The event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will offer registration discounts on Center Pointe’s summer camp as well as a performance by company dancers.

Slice of Bella, a pizza restaurant in the same shopping center as Center Pointe, will also host a grand opening Saturday. They will offer a bounce house, face painting and food specials.

Bianca, a life-long dancer, had been teaching at Center Pointe Dance for several years when then-owner Kim Lindsay sold it to Bianca and her husband, James, in early 2009.

When the Caryls purchased the studio, they decided a newer facility would be a better investment than renovating the previous, 18-year-old, space.

“Though some of our students drive from Tempe, Phoenix and Chandler, we knew that the majority of our families live in Ahwatukee and wouldn’t want to travel too far,” said Bianca, who is also a dance teacher at Desert Vista High School.

After several months of negotiations, the Caryls bought the new space, at the time a vacant dance studio, less than two miles from the previous location.

Bianca feels that the new location will benefit parents as well as dancers.

“We are also now more conveniently located to restaurants and shops so parents can get a manicure, grab dinner or grocery shop while they wait for their kids,” she said.

Classes officially started in the new space on Monday, just two days after the Caryls closed the previous studio.

“It sounds insane, but we moved the studio almost overnight,” Bianca said. “We were exhausted, but to see the faces on all the parents and students when they walked into the new studio made all the hard work worth it. There’s such a great vibe and energy in the new space and everyone seems elated about the move.”

Bianca complimented other local studios and also stressed that Center Pointe Dance is community-oriented.

“There are great dance studios in Ahwatukee. They all offer wonderful training,” she said. “At Center Pointe we feel our strength is our commitment to families, our phenomenal faculty, and our basic mission: to provide quality dance education and fun performing opportunities within a family-friendly environment.”
