Ironwood Library offers REEL Nights, a free monthly showing of award-winning independent and foreign films, every third Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 21 at 4333 E. Chandler Blvd.
The first film will be director Eric Guirado's The Grocer's Son (Le Fils de l'épicier). In this French variation of the prodigal son fable, the city-dwelling son reluctantly returns to his rural hometown to run the family business after his father has a heart attack.
REEL Nights is sponsored by the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library, Ironwood Chapter.

Near: Thai master to teach Botanical Art Workshop
The Desert Botanical Garden's Botanical Art and Illustration School will present a special Master Class workshop by Mr. Surnin, one of Thailand's most accomplished botanical artists, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 to 23 at the Desert Botanical Garden, 1201 N. Galvin Parkway.
The cost is $425 for members and $530 for non-members.
