A longtime Tempe Union High School District principal is moving up the ladder, becoming the district's new associate superintendent. Jim Denton, principal of Corona del Sol High School since 1995, could replace Steve Adolph as associate superintendent as early as next week. Adolph was promoted to superintendent in May. Associate superintendents in the district assist the top administrator in overseeing principals and schools, but Denton had a slightly more humble take on his future duties. "Basically, in the role of associate superintendent, I'll be doing whatever Mr. Adolph wants me to do," Denton laughed. A resident of Tempe, Denton started teaching in the district in 1978. He received his master's degree in secondary education from Arizona State University. Denton said he'll probably be working half days split between Corona and the district office until a replacement principal can be found to assume the reins of the high school. Then he gets to get his feet wet. "This is going to be new to me, so it's definitely a learn-as-I-go kind of thing." Jason Ludwig can be reached at (480) 898-7916 or jludwig@aztrib.com.
