Three-time New York Times best-selling author, inspiration for the hit TV series Medium on CBS and native Phoenician Allison DuBois is coming home to kick off her Family Connections Tour Jan. 19 and 21.

The tour is designed to encourage families, especially those having difficulty coping with a family death, to join together and reconnect with those who have passed while also gaining insight into the afterlife.

“It’s like holding hands with a living person and a dead person, and I have to translate for both of them,” DuBois said. “I love Arizona. I always love coming home, but I hope when I’m there I’ll be able to make a difference.”

DuBois said she is trying to get to as many people in her life as she can. She said she doesn’t do it for entertainment purposes; rather, she does it so people can breathe.

“They kind of die with the people they lost, so my job is to teach them to live again and to help them let go of some of the pain,” DuBois said. “The dead see us struggle with their passing. We say we miss them, but they can’t say the same thing because they’re with us.”

The seminar will be at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 N. 44th St. in Phoenix. VIP admission is from 6 to 7 p.m., and the seminar lasts from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $95 for general admission and $150 for VIP tickets.

VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to have their books signed and do a meet-and-greet with DuBois prior to the seminar. They also will have reserved seats in the first three rows.

“It doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be read, but it doesn’t hurt to be up front,” DuBois said.

Tickets and information for the seminar are available at www.allisondubois.com.

DuBois is quite familiar with the Ahwatukee Foothills area. In fact, she went to Corona del Sol High School in the Tempe Union High School District.

“I remember Ahwatukee when they were busing kids to Corona because Ahwatukee didn’t have a high school,” DuBois said. “It’s funny how we date ourselves; we all will sound like a historian eventually.”

In addition to mothering her three children, touring the country, authoring three books and inspiring a TV drama, DuBois has assembled a team for a reality TV show called Soul Evidence, which she hopes will be picked up by the SyFy channel.

For the show, DuBois assembled her “dream team” of detectives and other mediums. They go into a cold case without knowing anything about it, and DuBois is there to moderate them and make sure they’re all being treated as equals.

“I really think that we can at least warm up cold cases. And that’s the intent, to put closure to some family’s open wounds,” DuBois said.
