Creative Kids Art Club, founded by Ahwatukee Foothills resident Teresa Mouffe, is dedicated to encourage children to believe in their own individual form of creative artistic expression. Her intention is to inspire children to trust that there are no mistakes in art.
In an effort to expand participation and contribute something positive to the community and the student body, Mouffe has invited the students of Sonoran Science Academy to assist her club with an outreach project. Creative Kids Art Club, in collaboration with the Ahwatukee Recreation Center and Luke Air Force Base, has planned a project in which each student will create an artistic card and write a letter of support, inspiration or encouragement to a member of the United States Armed Forces currently stationed overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Creative Kids Art Club intends to create 200 cards for this project by early March.
In the soldier support program called Operation Thunder, the Ahwatukee Recreation Center is collecting donations of playing cards, personal-sized toiletries, personal-sized snack items and more through March 15 to be packaged along with a Creative Kids card. Luke Air Force Base will then send the packages overseas.
To donate items, contact Amy Nicholls at (480) 893-2549.
