More than a hundred volunteers will role up their sleeves and take on various volunteer projects in Ahwatukee Foothills the week before Thanksgiving. Many of these volunteers have just completed a 10-week introduction to the Christian faith at the hosting churches – Mountain Park Community and Mountain View Lutheran. Fourteen local organizations will benefit from the efforts of these volunteers. Community members are welcome and invited to participate in the projects that have a contact listed. Thrivent Financial Lutherans, Connecting to Serve and Alpha Arizona are all sponsors of this event.

Habitat for Humanity Golf Tournament: Volunteers can participate in the tournament, work the registration table or help with raffle sales. To volunteer, call Ron Lichty at (480) 893-2579 x 125.

Ahwatukee Preschool: Volunteers will work together to paint a play-yard fence and help prep a garden.

Feed My Starving Children: Volunteers will help this organization with their meal-packing assembly. Feed My Starving Children ships hand-packed meals to over 60 countries to help starving adults and children.

Mountain Park Meal Prep: Volunteers will meet at the Mountain Park Community Church to help with preparation for the “New Leaf Homeless Shelter.”

South Mountain/Park Project: Volunteers will help clean up and do ground maintenance for a local community park. To volunteer, contact Richard Plautz at Richard.Plautz@phoenix.900.

Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA: Volunteers will participate in a special, one-time project at the YMCA.

Bunker Hospitality: Volunteers will prepare meals for an area community home. The ingredients and recipes will be provided.

Kyrene School District: Volunteers will have plenty to choose from in this program. The Kyrene School District has asked for help in moving the Kyrene Resource Center, distributing holiday boxes and hygiene kits and much more. To volunteer, contact Amanda Hamm at ahamm@kyrene.org.

YOPAS, Ahwatukee Board of Management, Ahwatukee Recreation Center: Volunteers will participate in a variety projects for seniors including hanging Christmas lights, planting flowers, changing smoke alarms, etc. All three of these organizations will be helping different seniors around the community. To volunteer for YOPAS, contact Linda Jochim at lindajochim@aol.com.

Sojourners Center: Volunteers will help the Sojourners Center, which works to stop domestic abuse, with donation center sorting and pricing and grounds maintenance. To volunteer, call (602) 244-0994.

Mentor Kids: Volunteers can sign up to go though a training program to help “mentor” kids at risk. To volunteer, contact Nancy Kalmick at nkalmick.cox.net.

Festival of Lights: Volunteers will help set up lights for this beautiful display. To volunteer, contact Vicki Witt at vikkta@cox.net.
