Eric Hitsman and Dan Ray took a group of 21 students to the Chandler-Gilbert “Excellence in Mathematics Competition” recently. The team, composed of Asya Volkova, Alex Stoken, Alison Romero and Amanda Nguyen, won first place in the group problem solving competition earning a score of 59 out of 60 points.

They were competing in the Level I -Precalculus and above category. Three of these students are currently taking calculus III/differential equations and one has already completed it, and is taking statistics.

Stoken is the president of MuAlpha Theta (National Math Honor Society).
