Boy Scout Troop 118 in Ahwatukee Foothills celebrated the advancement of six of its longtime scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on Feb. 26: Jake Alme, Michael Burnett, Conner Perkins, Aidan Schramm, Benjamin Shurgrue — all Desert Vista students from Ahwatukee Foothills — and Jacob Cassavant from Chandler.

To earn the Eagle rank a scout must earn the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and finally Eagle. Along the way, he earned 12 required merit badges and nine elective merit badges, served in troop leadership positions for a total of 16 months, and spent at least 13 hours on service projects, not including the many hours he spent on his Eagle Scout service project. In all, he has completed approximately 325 different requirements.

Almost 10 percent of all Eagle Scouts in the Salt River District for 2013 have been from Troop 118.
