Hannah Fadenrecht of Ahwatukee Foothills is currently participating in “Whitman Teaches the Movement,” a partner project between Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., Walla Walla Public Schools, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, a facility based in Montgomery, Ala.

The goal of the project is to increase awareness about the civil rights movement among elementary school students. A group of more than 100 Whitman College students taught classes in local schools Jan. 22-Feb. 1 and focused on different aspects of the movement in each grade.

Fadenrecht, the daughter of Gail Fadenrecht and Walt Flom, is a graduate of Desert Vista High School and is currently a junior biology major at Whitman.
