Local resident promoted in Marine Corps Reserves

Ahwatukee Foothills resident and a Marine Reservist Col. Steven D. Weintraub, currently mobilized on active duty and stationed at Camp Pendleton, was promoted to colonel on Dec. 1. Col. Weintraub’s job is the G-3 or chief operations officer for 1st Marine Logistics Group. It’s 10,000-plus Marines comprise the logistics combat element of the first Marine Expeditionary Force.

The first Marine Logistics Group has more than 1,400 Marines and sailors deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout the world. As chief operations officer, Weintraub’s responsibilities include the personnel sourcing, training and equipping of Marines and sailors as they train and prepare for expeditionary operations, worldwide contingencies, and deployments to Afghanistan.

Weintraub has been in the Marine Corps for more than 23 years. Through his career on active duty and in the reserves, he has been deployed throughout the world, including Somalia and two combat tours in Iraq.

Weintraub has lived in Ahwatukee since 1994.
