A 2010 Desert Vista High School graduate and Northern Arizona University junior, Katharine Boelter, sings, dances and acts in a Broadway-style production at the new Grand Canyon Dinner Theater (GCDT).
Boelter auditioned for one of the two female roles in the theater’s production of Miss Kitty’s Grand Adventure “I’m No Mail Order Bride.” She was overjoyed to get the call from the writer/director, Douglas Hallenbeck, letting her know she was hired before the end of her sophomore year at NAU. Her first performance was on July 19. She will actually be performing throughout the summer in both of the female roles: Miss Katharine Rogers (Kitty) a few nights a week and then Madame de Murska on other nights. In the fall she’ll return to NAU to continue earn her Bachelor of Arts with a double major of piano performance and theater.
Boelter grew up in Ahwatukee and throughout her school years played supporting roles in the productions at Altadeña Middle School and Desert Vista. She’s also performed in Altadeña’s orchestra and Desert Vista’s chamber orchestra.
Boelter is performing five nights a week at GCDT, which is located right outside of the Grand Canyon National Park entrance. With visitors from all over the world, she hopes everyone from Ahwatukee and Arizona will have an opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon Dinner Theater to see her perform.
