Xavier College Preparatory partnered with the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University and hosted its fourth annual “Girls Have IT Day” on March 16.
Developed by Xavier students in conjunction with faculty, “Girls Have IT Day” promotes young women’s involvement in science, information technology (IT), engineering, art and math (STEAM).
More than 400 middle school girls from around the Phoenix metropolitan area participated in the day’s events, along with more than 100 Xavier students mentoring the younger students throughout the day.
The program began with a lecture by Mary Lucking, an artist, architect and technologist who creates artworks for people to share. Following Lucking’s lecture, the students participated in a hands-on, STEAM-focused activity fair hosted by members of various Xavier student clubs.
