In front of her first-grade classroom, in the middle of their winter party, Ahwatukee attorney Mark Breyer surprised Tempe teacher Joella Goist with a giant-sized check, a plaque and a pizza party.

Goist was selected the December winner of Breyer Law Office’s Teacher Appreciation Program.

Each monthly winner is handed their $250 prize with a special plaque to commemorate the achievement. Of the hundreds of nominations received by Breyer Law of Ahwatukee, those written on behalf of Joella Goist stood out.

Nominations came in from parents, fellow teachers and the administration of her school. Other nominators described Goist as patient and fun, and wrote her classroom is close-knit and feels like a family.
