United Way announced its 2011 annual workforce fundraising campaign raised $48 million, reaching its goal. Volunteers, donors and community partners were honored recently for their commitment and support of United Way’s goals to end hunger and homelessness; ensure that children and youth succeed; and increase the financial stability of individuals and families in Maricopa County.

Intel Corporation established a new category of campaign giving and raised more than $8.3 million for Valley of the Sun United Way. Paving the way are Intel’s 164 Tocqueville donors (minimum of $10,000 annual investment) and nearly 1,000 Leadership donors ($1,000-$9,999 annual investment) along with a generous corporate gift from the Intel Foundation.

The celebration of community giving also honored several organizations with unique United Way awards. Don Smith, president and CEO for SCF Arizona and United Way’s 2011 campaign chair, presented the Chairman’s Award to PetSmart Inc. and its employees.
