Danette Barton was recently selected to lead the youth services division at the Maricopa County Library District after five years of implementing youth programs at the Southeast Regional Library.

Barton joined Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert in 2007 as a youth librarian, a position she has had for three years. She was subsequently promoted to youth services supervisor at Southeast in 2010. Now, as MCLD’s youth services manager, Barton advocates for child literacy and develops strategies for implementing youth programs at its 17 libraries.

According to Jeremy Reader, MCLD deputy director, Barton has the right knowledge and exhibits the correct attitude to bring success to her new position.

MCLD’s summer reading program is getting much of Barton’s immediate attention. She earned a Masters of Library Science from the University of Arizona and has a bachelor’s degree in English from Spelman College.
