Desert Vista High School teacher Darlene Wedington-Clark is hitting all the right notes with her music students. One, in particular, is 14-year-old Timothy Newport. The freshman classical guitarist is not only excelling in the school’s strings program, He’s also taken up the violin. All of Wedington-Clark’s students are performing at a higher level, making beautiful music in the school’s Concert Strings Orchestra.

For her inspiration and leadership to her students, Wedington-Clark was named the Fulton Homes Teacher of the Week for week of April 7-11. Timothy’s mother, Barbara Newport, nominated Wedington-Clark for the award.

In May a “Teacher of the Year” will be chosen from the list of weekly winners, and he or she will be presented with a $1,000 check at a ceremony celebrating all the weekly winners. Based on the entries received, a panel of judges will select the champion and the teacher will be announced and commended with gifts at the year-end banquet.
