Children who attended Vacation Bible School at Desert Foothills United Methodist Church tied 130 blankets for the University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center (SCRC) in Tucson. The panda-themed Bible school took place June 13 to 17 at the Ahwatukee church. More than 130 children, teens and adults attended the week-long camp.

At SCRC, physicians and scientists work together to find cures for childhood diseases and to better children’s health. They are currently working on more than 100 research projects, ranging from cancer to nutritional problems. The panda-themed blankets will comfort children who are admitted to the center at a time that may be frightening for them.

The project was started by Ellen Hill, one of DFUMC’s youth. Hill will be taking the blankets and panda bears that were part of the project to SCRC in August. To learn more about the project or to make a donation, contact Ellen at bhill63@cox.net.
