Cyan McFarlane, a 2009 graduate of Mountain Pointe High School, received the presidential service award from New York University this spring.

The purpose of the president’s service award is to recognize the achievements of students for their promotion of learning, leadership, and quality of student life at New York University. President’s service awards are given to students or student organizations that have had an extraordinary and positive impact on the university community.

McFarlane’s activities, while a student at NYU, have included board chair of the alternative breaks program.

The alternative breaks program provides students with the opportunity to learn about political and social community and students integrate service, education, and reflection to create meaningful change in their communities.

Additionally, McFarlane has been involved in Habitat for Humanity, as well as disaster relief during super storm Sandy.

McFarlane will graduate this May with a bachelor of science in neuroscience with minors in psychology and chemistry.
