The Phoenix Symphony Association names Kim Leavitt as director of education and community engagement.

Prior to joining the symphony, Leavitt was former director of arts education for the Tennessee Arts Commission, where she oversaw and administered arts learning grant programs and initiatives statewide.

Leavitt is nationally known for her work in arts integration, pioneering two arts integration curriculum models that received more than $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

Both programs, Value Plus Schools and Arts360, demonstrated how the arts improve learning in science, math and language arts.

A native of Buckhannon, W.Va., Kim holds a bachelor's degree in theater arts, a master's degree in communication arts and a master's degree in English.
