Arizona Humane Society announces chief executive officer

Dr. Steven Hansen, DVM, will join the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) as chief executive officer (CEO) on Oct. 21 and will bring nearly 30 years of animal-welfare passion and renowned professional experience to the state’s nonprofit.

Hansen most recently served as chief operating officer (COO) of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in New York City. He joined the ASPCA in 1997 and was responsible for leading medical, finance, human resources, technology, capital projects and facilities programs and departments located in New York City and nationally. He serves on a variety of boards, including the Morris Animal Foundation’s Animal Welfare Advisory Board, the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Legislative Advisory Committee and is treasurer of the American College of Animal Welfare. He received his bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, and received an MS and MBA from the University of Illinois.

Hansen is board certified by the American College of Animal Welfare and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology.
