Nick Marek, who has been a member of the Phoenix Police Explorers since March 2011, has been selected to be a member of the elite Explorers Honor Guard.

This unit represents the Phoenix Police Department and carries the U.S. flag and the Ariz. flag during special events by international and Arizona dignitaries and politicians. The unit participates at inaugurals, state and city funerals, and many other high profile events.

Marek is the first Desert Vista High School student to be hand-picked for this special unit.

These accomplishments will help Marek qualify to be selected into the Naval R. O. T. C. program after he graduates Desert Vista. He plans to become a U.S. Marine Corp. officer after he completes his college degree at Arizona State University.
