Hailey Dickson, an Ahwatukee senior at Desert Vista High School, is embarking on a journey this month to the Democratic Republic of Nepal, a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia, where she will be meeting other students from around the world and doing volunteer work through Projects Abroad.

For two weeks, Dickson will attend various lectures at the Chitwan Medical College, then participate in a special medical program designated for high-school students, where she will do work at cancer, eye, and community hospitals, as well as at a family planning center.

For an additional two weeks, Dickson will be transferred to another remote area to volunteer more independently at a Nepali English school. There, she will care for the younger children (ages 2-5), play with them, teach some English, and promote valuable skills such as dental hygiene.
