The following Ahwatukee musicians impressed at the recent Arizona Musicfest Young Performers Recital.

Pianist Jessica Zhang, a fifth-grader at BASIS in Ahwatukee, opened the recital with Haydn’s “Sonata in C Major” and Chopin’s “Grande Valse Brillante.” Zhang has studied piano since the age of 5. She won awards in the Desert Valley Music Teachers Association Piano Competition in 2010 and 2012. Her most recent accomplishment was winning first place in the East Valley Music Teachers Association Competition this year.

Violinist Linda Han, a junior at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee, concluded the recital with a performance of “Beau Soir” by Debussy, arranged by Heifetz, and Sarasate’s “Zingeunerweisen.” Han is a member of the 2014 National High School Honors Orchestra. She has played the violin for seven years, winning first in the 2013 American String Teachers Association Solo Competition, and second in the Chandler Symphony Concerto Competition. She was a member of the First Violin Section of the 2013 All-National Honor Orchestra and also served as co-concertmaster of the Phoenix Youth Symphony.
