Suhitha Veeravelli, a Desert Vista High School student, has been awarded one of 650 National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarships (NSLI-Y) for 2011-2012. NSLI-Y is funded by the U.S. Department of State and provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students to learn less commonly-taught languages in summer, semester and academic year overseas immersion programs. Through her participation in the program, Suhitha will be in the vanguard of international communication and will develop the skills necessary to be a leader in the global community.

Suhitha Veeravelli, 15, will be a junior at Desert Vista this fall. She enjoys traveling and having the opportunity to learn new languages, like Mandarin Chinese at the six-week summer program in China offered by NSLI-Y through American Field Service (AFS).
