The Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced that five Valley-area high school students have been selected to take part in the 2014 Student Leaders program, which awards a total of 220 community-minded high school juniors and seniors from around the country with paid eight-week summer internships at local branches of the Boys & Girls Club.

Rachel Matsumoto of Ahwatukee, an 11th-grade student at Tempe Preparatory Academy is interning at the LADMO Club, 715 W. 5th Street in Tempe.

In addition to the paid internships, the students attended a week-long Bank of America Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., in July. Summit activities include a service learning project and a series of interactive workshops.
