Vinna “Lee” Brimmer, 70, was chosen to receive the honor of Arizona’s 2014 Outstanding Senior Volunteer as part of the Salute to Senior Service program. Sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, the program celebrates the many contributions senior volunteers make in local communities across the United States.

Brimmer has been riding her bicycle, picking up litter in the various communities in which she’s lived since 1970, including on the first Earth Day. Her efforts won her an appointment to Ahwatukee’s Mayor’s Beautification Committee.

When she moved to Ahwatukee three years ago to be closer to her daughter, she bought an adult tricycle, riding it two hours per day picking up litter along Ray Road. Every day, people honk and wave from vehicles, even stopping to thank her.

In recognition of Brimmer’s contributions, Home Instead Senior Care will donate $500 to Central Christian Church. She also will be featured on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame, found at SalutetoSeniorService.com.
