Stephan Kepczyk, Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron cadet chief master sergeant, was presented with the General Billy Mitchell Award by U.S. Air Force Major Patterson at a ceremony that took place recently at the Sky Harbor Air National Guard Base. Kepczyk is now a cadet second lieutenant with the CAP 301 Flying Tiger Squadron.
To earn the Billy Mitchell Award, a cadet must pass comprehensive leadership and aerospace tests, attend a week-long encampment at a military installation, pass rigorous physical agility tests, and complete a certain number of activities with his or her unit.
For Kepczyk, those activities included participating in both powered and glider orientation flights, emergency service training courses, and being the commander of the squadron’s color guard.
C/2nd Lt. Kepczyk is the son of Roman Kepczyk and Sylvie Fraser of Ahwatukee and is as senior at McClintock High School where he plays trumpet in the band and is a member of the golf team.
