After graduating from Mountain Pointe High School in 2011, Ahwatukee resident Leighton Blankenburg received the Falcon Scholarship to Northwestern Preparatory School in Crestline, Calif. He attended the fall semester there and in the spring he was a full-time student at Arizona State University. On May 1, Leighton received his appointment letter from the United States Air Force Academy, a goal he has wanted since the sixth grade. He will be leaving on June 25 to Colorado Springs and will start basic training later that week.
