Horizon Community Learning Center sixth grader Lexy Mattouk has won the lead role of Clara in the Ahwatukee Foothills Nutcracker.

Mattouk has trained at Center Pointe Dance in Ahwatukee for the past three years in all styles of dance, including ballet, jazz and hip hop. Last year she focused exclusively on her classical ballet training with Joshua and Natasha Brooksher, artistic directors of Southwest Classical Dance Institute, after receiving a scholarship award from SCDI for continued study.

Mattouk was a member of the Ballet Company at Center Pointe Dance last season and had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas to participate in the Kids Artistic Revue National Competition. She performed original choreography from the solo variation of "Bluebird Pas De Deux" from the famed ballet "The Sleeping Beauty." Mattouk competed the variation en pointe for which she was awarded "Top First Place."

Of the approximately 100 students who auditioned for the Ahwatukee Foothills Nutcracker Ballet, 30 dancers auditioned specifically for the role of Clara.
