On March 2, Mountainside Martial Arts competed in the 2014 Arizona State Karate Championships and United States National Qualifier.

An unprecedented 26 medals were won by the competitors of the Ahwatukee/Foothills’ longest running martial arts school, the most medals won in the school’s 35 year existence.

Over the years, Mountainside has had a long standing history of performing at a very high level in elite competition. This year was even more impressive as the State Championships were sanctioned by the United States National Karate Federation and the United States Olympic Committee. The group now travels to the United States National Championships in Reno, Nev. July 8-13.

Mountainside Martial Arts is the community’s longest running business and has taught traditional martial arts since 1979.

The program is under head instructor Rick Savagian, fifth-degree black belt in Wado-Ryu karate. Visit www.mmacaz.net or call (480) 759-4540. Email Sensei Rick at rick@mmacaz.net or Sensei Karen Kruse at karen@mmacaz.net. New students are always welcomed.
