DV Marching Band season under way

The Desert Vista High School Thunder Marching Band has launched its 2010 marching season with this year's competition show entitled "Transport: From The Ground Up."

The band performs during halftime of every home DV football game and travels to all of the away games to perform the pre-game show.

With rehearsals from 5:45 to 8 a.m. before school three mornings per week, plus multiple evening and weekend rehearsals, the 143-member band puts intense focus on learning both the music and the drill. On a recent Saturday, the fire department helped provide an opportunity to cool off in the mid-day heat.

Competition season gets under way with the CDS Invitational on Sept. 28 followed by six more competitions through October and November.

Based on a strong tradition of excellence and last year's award-winning season, the Thunder Marching Band was invited to compete in the Fiesta Bowl National Band Championships on Dec. 29 in Glendale.
