First-grade teacher at Kyrene de los Lagos Elementary School, Michele Bennett, was recently named Teacher of the Month by Breyer Law Offices of Ahwatukee.

Nominations for Teacher of the Month took place over Facebook, where teachers, administration and family members casted votes on who should be selected each month. Students were also rewarded by receiving a pizza party.

Mark Breyer visited Bennett’s classroom recently and spoke to her students about the award and presented her with a $250 check to go toward purchasing classroom material. Bennett has been a teacher at Lagos for the past 12 years.

Breyer and his wife began the contest three years ago in efforts to commemorate the hard work teachers do in the classrooms.

Initially it started off as an Ahwatukee and Kyrene School District contest, but over the years the Breyers decided to award teachers across the Valley.
