Gov. Jan Brewer has announced the appointment of Jay Heiler to the Arizona Board of Regents.

Heiler, a longtime Valley resident, is a political and public affairs consultant, founder and chairman of the board of the Great Hearts Academies, a network of charter prep schools in the Phoenix area, and chairman of the board of directors for the Arizona Charter Schools Association. Heiler has also served as president of the board for St. Francis of Xavier School and was a member of the board of directors for The Morrison Institute, The Goldwater Institute and the Arizona School Choice Trust.

Heiler has also held several leadership positions in Arizona state government, including chief of staff for former Gov. Fife Symington and assistant attorney general under Arizona Attorney General Bob Corbin. Heiler received his undergraduate degree and juris doctorate from Arizona State University.

Heiler's appointment to the Board of Regents is effective January 2012 and is subject to confirmation by the Arizona State Senate. Heiler will replace Regent Fred DuVal, who currently serves as chair of the board.
