The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) announced that Josh Brakensiek of Ahwatukee Foothills, who is home-schooled, was chosen by a panel of judges as one of the top 10 Research Science Institute scholars out of 80 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this summer. Brakensiek was one of five students to receive a top written award at the 29th annual RSI for recognized secondary school academic achievers.

Brakensiek’s research involved Bounds on the Size of Sound Monotone Switching Networks Accepting Permutation Sets of Directed Trees. He was mentored by Aaron Potechin of MIT.

CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI), nationally and international recognized, is offered in partnership with MIT. RSI is a six-week intensive program that provides students with the opportunity to conduct original, cutting edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals and corporate research facilities.
