National History Bee and Bowl

Desert Vista competing in the National History Bee and Bowl at Mesquite High in Gilbert

In a team-based Bowl competition at the National History Bee and Bowl at Mesquite High in Gilbert, Desert Vista A and Scottsdale Prep came in first and second, respectively, after a final game. Desert Vista, a regular at academic competitions, regularly tops the charts while Scottsdale Prep, a team composed of ninth- and 10th-graders (compared to the 11th- and 12th-graders of DV), also consistently perform well. Coming in third place overall was Mesquite A, and in fourth place cinching the last Nationals qualification spot was Desert Vista B.

In the Bee (individual competition), A Varsity division for 11th- and 12th-graders and a Junior Varsity division for 10th and below. In the Varsity division the top two were Michael Burnett from Desert Vista and Rielly Fitch from Mesquite, with Burnett winning. Junior Varsity had Hayden Shelly from Scottsdale Prep beating out his teammate Dirk Bernhardt. Six varsity students and five varsity students qualified for the National Championships.
