For the next 10 weeks each candidate will commit to raise funds for blood cancer research. The candidates will vie for the title with success measured in the amount of money raised through events and donations. Proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and directly fund lifesaving blood cancer research, financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing, free educational materials and events for patients and their families.

This year’s 2014 candidates include diverse individuals and leaders in the community with candidates from Mexico, Pakistan, one African American candidate and a candidate from China who will utilize their leadership abilities and resources to conduct their own fundraising campaigns.

Current Man & Woman of The Year candidates are: Jessica Catlin, Greater Phoenix Economic Council; Kiki Cordero, COR Pilates Sports Rehab; Rafael Fonseca, M.D., Mayo Clinic; Chuck Hauff, Snell & Wilmer; Scott Harkey, Owens Harkey Advertising; Kristina Keefe, Starwood Hotels; Michelle McQueen, Lagardere Unlimited; Cristina Munoz, CKM Public Affairs & Communications, Fletcher Perry Colliers International, Ali Rizvi North Star Resource Group; Marty Shultz Brownstein Hyatt, Farber Schreck, LLP; Dr. Schavon Waggoner, Phoenix Union High School District.

The male and female candidates who raise the most funds during the campaign will be awarded the title of the chapter’s Man & Woman of the Year. Candidates are judged solely on their success in raising money, each dollar counting as one vote. Their totals are then considered for the national title. Candidates run in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year, who are local blood cancer patient survivors and sources of inspiration to others.

The 2014 Grand Finale will be on May 16 at Talking Stick Resort. Candidates’ efforts will be celebrated with food, cocktails, music, auction, and announcement of the male and female winners.
