Following a national search and recruitment, South Mountain Community College (SMCC) has announced the hiring of Dr. Osaro Ighodaro as its new vice president of student development.

Ighodaro most recently served as dean of student affairs at Glendale Community College, and previously served as associate dean for student affairs at Scottsdale Community College. He was a member of the President’s Leadership Team at both colleges and led their respective student success initiatives.

He will report to SMCC President Dr. Shari Olson, who assumed leadership of the college in 2011.

Prior to working for the Maricopa County Community College District, Ighodaro served as director of freshman year experience at Arizona State University, and other leadership roles in student affairs at St. Mary’s College of Maryland as well as Northern Arizona University.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Arizona University in 1990 and 1992, respectively, and his doctoral degree from NAU in 2005, all in political science.

Osaro played collegiate basketball at NAU and professionally in Belgium. He and his wife, Dawn, have two children.

Ighodaro assumed his new position on Aug. 1.
