Phoenix City Manager David Cavazos has named Deanna Jonovich director of the Phoenix Human Services Department (HSD).
Jonovich, who will manage a $62 million budget and more than 400 employees, served as acting director of HSD from March to June.
She will administer HSD's comprehensive social services delivery system, directing the development and funding of programs with social service, educational, government and private agencies, and directing the city's short- and long-term planning for human services programs. Programs include 154 Head Start classrooms, 15 senior centers, three family services centers, the homeless program and the Family Advocacy Center (FAC). The FAC serves as one central location for victims of domestic and sexual violence to receive comprehensive services.
Jonovich began her career with the city of Phoenix in 2001 as an administrative assistant II in the Human Services Department, before serving as Human Services program coordinator from 2002 to 2006, and deputy director from 2006 to the present. She began her career in Gila County in 1994 as grant services manager, before being promoted to assistant director and then community services director. Jonovich earned her Masters of Administration and Bachelor of Science in business administration from Northern Arizona University.
