Ahwatukee Girl Scout Troop 665 hosted a coat drive last month with the help of the national organization, One Warm Coat, to collect more than 100 coats for the women and children at Maggie’s Place, a community that provides houses of hospitality for expectant women who are alone or on the streets and wish to achieve their goals in a dignified atmosphere. Maggie’s Place operates four homes, including three in Phoenix.

One Warm Coat provided the girls with marketing materials to help build awareness of their project and promote their efforts and success on their website.

The five donation boxes that were filled to capacity were picked up by the agency last month and the coats were presented to the families of Maggie’s Place at their annual Christmas celebration on Dec. 22. Over half of all the coats collected came from the faculty and student body of Ahwatukee’s Altadeña Middle School.
