Desert Vista students teamed up with former Arizona outfielder and 2001 World Series champ Luis Gonzalez on Friday to organize and stuff backpacks with school supplies and clothing collected to be donated to thousands of Phoenix-area students in need.

The Bank of America and Back to School Clothing Drive kicked off Monday as the group began to distribute thousands of backpacks full of clothing and school supplies to children from 130 schools from 40 school districts in the Phoenix area.

This week, thousands of students will receive the school supplies and clothing they need for the upcoming school year.

In total, 10,000 children will benefit from the school and clothing program this summer.
