Mike Sissel with AZYELP (Youth Exemplifying Leadership Principles) will offer a leadership workshop for students in fifth to eighth grade from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 31 to Nov. 30, at the Summit School of Ahwatukee, 4515 E. Muirwood Drive. The workshop is open to students attending any school in the community.

Inspired by The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens and The Freedom Writers methodology, this program is designed to build a foundation of life and leadership skills, ultimately transforming both personal and academic endeavors.

Throughout this 12-week program, students will spend time reflecting on their leadership skills by completing various self-assessments, reading anecdotes of real life pre-teens and analyzing potential scenarios they are likely to encounter. Other activities include writing a personal mission statement and learning the secrets of effective time management. Sissel will also provide a nightly reflection, meant to reinforce each of the skills at home.

The cost is $180 for all 12 sessions. Class will not meet on Oct. 12 or Nov. 23.

For more information or to register, go to www.azyelp.com or e-mail mikesissel@azyelp.com. Summit School families may register through the school (brochures will be sent home Aug. 17).
