Chandler-Gilbert Community College baseball will honor alumnus and current Colorado Rockies infielder Eric Young Jr. at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8 on the college's baseball fields.
Young started his college career at CGCC in 2003, playing second base for the Coyotes for one season before signing with the Rockies. Young made his Major League debut with the Rockies on Aug. 25, 2009, going 1-for-4 as the club's leadoff hitter/center fielder. Young got his first major league hit that night in the fifth inning off of Dodger pitcher Clayton Kershaw, with his father, ESPN announcer Eric Young Sr., watching from the press box. Eric Young Sr. is also the first base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks after a long MLB career. Also playing in that game was fellow CGCC alumnus Andre Ethier, the right fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
For more information, call (480) 732-7030. CGCC is located at 2626 E. Pecos Road, in Chandler.
