Catholic students to rally at Capitol Jan. 30
More than 1,000 Catholic school students from Arizona will rally at the State Capitol next week in support of school choice legislation. The rally is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and will feature high-ranking Arizona State officials, in addition to the Catholic bishops of Arizona.
The rally at the Capitol is just one way that Catholic students, families and educators participate in the national Catholic Schools Week celebration. Now in its 40th year, Catholic Schools Week highlights the value a Catholic education provides to young people and Catholic education’s contributions to the community and nation.
Rachel’s Challenge at Desert Vista Jan. 28
Desert Vista High School will host the nationwide program, Rachel’s Challenge, on Monday, Jan. 28. Already a presence in Kyrene School District middle schools, the program is based on the life of Rachel Scott, the first person killed in the Columbine tragedy of 1999, and it is important for students to hear her message of kindness and compassion.
Two assemblies will be hosted on Monday at 9:05 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. in the large gym. A community event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Dr. Joe McDonald Auditorium, 16440 S. 32nd St.
