Spencer Elliott and Swaroon Shridar of Mountain Pointe High School have been selected to be among the top 40 students in the state of Arizona to be considered for Flinn Finalists.
The Flinn Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship offered to Arizona High School students. Mountain Pointe has a strong history of success in securing Flinn scholars, most recently last year we had 2 of the 22 Arizona students awarded the Flinn scholarship, according to Tempe Union High School District spokeswoman Linda Littell.

Kyrene offers free resources for families
The Thrive to Five program at the Kyrene School District is offering free, parent-child classes this month.
All classes are either parent-child interactive or include free childcare for children 2 years old and up.
Registration is open for the following Ahwatukee classes:
• Brain Time at Kyrene de la Colina on Tuesdays through Jan. 29 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
• Kinder Prep at Kyrene de los Lagos on Wednesdays through Jan. 30 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
• Positive Discipline Parent Class at Kyrene de los Lagos on Thursdays through Jan. 31 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Upcoming dates for Kyrene orientations, parent meetings
Kyrene School District announced various orientations and prep programs for its schools this month and into February.
Kindergarten orientations will be available at all Kyrene elementary schools Thursday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The Kyrene Prep Program will be hosted at the Kyrene Middle School campus, 1050 E. Carver Road in Tempe, on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
Preschool round-ups will be hosted in two session on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Kyrene District Office, 8700 South Kyrene Road in Tempe. Sessions are scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
