SMCC Storytelling Institute kicks off ‘Myth Informed' fall series

The South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute will present its popular annual "Myth Informed" series beginning Sept. 13, featuring three concerts that spotlight mythical tales from cultures around the world.

The first performance will feature "The Mahabharata," one of two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India. The tale will be presented by storyteller Cathryn Fairlee starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the SMCC Studio Theatre, 7050 S. 24th St., just north of Baseline Road. In courtesy to the storyteller, no one will be seated once the storytelling has begun.

Upcoming performances include "MythMob Presents Big Girls Who Fight," scheduled for Oct. 11, and "The Story of Branwen," set for Nov. 1.

SMCC storytelling programs are not exclusively children's events, but often contain sophisticated themes and content, and are suitable for both adults and young people.

Admission is free.
